Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) / Registered Nurse (RN) – 1:1 Student Support

We are seeking a compassionate, skilled, and relationship-focused Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Registered Nurse (RN) to provide dedicated one-on-one medical and educational support for an elementary student throughout the school day.
This role is about much more than providing medical care. We are looking for someone who will build a trusting relationship with a student, partner closely with educators and families, and become an integral member of our school community. The ideal candidate is warm, patient, flexible, and passionate about helping children thrive in an inclusive educational environment.
Position Responsibilities:
The LPN/RN will provide individualized nursing care and support to one elementary student, including but not limited to:
- Remaining within arm's reach of the student throughout the school day to ensure safety and provide immediate medical support as needed.
- Providing skilled nursing care in accordance with the student's individualized healthcare plan and physician orders.
- Administering medications and treatments in compliance with physician orders, school policies, and state nursing regulations.
- Assisting with activities of daily living, including toileting, personal hygiene, and mobility, while preserving the student's dignity, comfort, and independence.
- Monitoring the student's physical health and responding appropriately to changes in condition or medical needs.
- Supporting the student's participation in classroom instruction, specials, lunch, recess, field trips, and other school activities to ensure meaningful inclusion.
- Maintaining accurate and timely documentation of medications, treatments, observations, and health-related concerns.
- Communicating proactively with families, school administrators, teachers, therapists, and healthcare providers to ensure coordinated care.
- Responding calmly and effectively to medical emergencies and implementing emergency care plans when necessary.
- Promoting the student's independence while providing the appropriate level of support for safety and success.
Qualifications:
- Current North Carolina Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing.
- Current CPR and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Pediatric nursing experience is preferred but not required.
- Experience working with children in a school, pediatric, or community setting is highly desirable.
- Strong clinical judgment and critical thinking skills.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times.
- Ability to safely assist with lifting, transfers, and other physical support as needed.
